The Story...

At the 2005 Election, New Zealand First over-spent by $158,000. As it turned out, all parties had over-spent. However, from the time that this came to light, Winston Peters has adamantly refused to pay back the amount owing. That is theft.

In December 2007, NZ First donated $158,000 to charity Starship Children's Hospital. This was an attempt to avoid paying the money to the tax-payer. It was also a cunningly devised publicity stunt. Shortly after this, Starship returned the gift. Though they desperately needed funding, they were not prepared to accept "dirty money".

It's now 2008, and even though all the other parties have paid back* the amount they overspent, Winston Peters insists that he will not return the money to the tax-payer.

On 1 April 2008, Peters confirmed that NZ First had begun disbursing the money and said a full list would be provided once the process was completed.

That's ridiculous. The money is owed to the Government (the tax-payer). Why should Winston be above the law?

Help us spread the word of New Zealand First's devious dealings with the New Zealand public. Winston "First" Peter's apparent scorn of ethics as he refuses to pay the $180,000 back to the New Zealand tax-payer.

absolutely! who the heck does he think he is?

Yeah, Don't steal our money!

Hey Winston "if I rob your house, steal your car, TV, and $500 cash from your wallet... and then pay it back does that mean no crime was committed?"

Paying the money back is the least you can do Winston.

How very interesting! I guess the whole truth was a bit much for you was it?? But considering this is posted by a person who feels perfectly comfortable telling 50% of our population what they can and can't do with their own bodies I guess we can't be all that surprised by your obvious attempts to discredit this man. Funny though - because if you look at his voting record on bill after bill after bill in parliament and add in your religous persuation you are attacking on of the few politicians that stood up through his vote for the rights of the family and good christian values. But that would get in the way of your prejudice I guess. Shame!
